Jury in the Pleterski fraud trial never heard he was kidnapped in 2022

The guilty plea of one of four people charged showed Pleterski was held from Dec 5 to 8, 2022, in Toronto. The three others go on trial Nov 9.

Jurors also did not learn that he had been free on bail since May 2024, or that he said he could not afford a lawyer.

The judge refused to cancel the trial, saying Pleterski came without a computer, pen or notepad and questioned no witness. He said he believed the aim was to prepare an appeal, which is Pleterski’s right.
