J.D. Irving warns NB Power's surplus power sales to the US could close Irving Paper
Earlier this year the provincial regulator let NB Power sell surplus electricity outside the province at market prices. Industries like Irving used to buy it at discounted rates.
Estimated extra cost a year, per the company
$10 million
J.D. Irving executive Mark Mosher says the change could raise Irving Paper's power costs by about $10 million a year and force it to close.
Energy Minister Rene Legacy says the government could reverse the decision but won't, because it benefits other NB Power customers.
