Montreal mayor backs police chief Dagher over the destroyed-evidence allegations

Police said the officer could face criminal charges for allegedly concealing evidence in a 2025 domestic violence case. Chief Fady Dagher is expected to give an update on the case.

“I have total confidence in a police director who wants to change this culture from within.”

— Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada

The mayor’s Friday statement is stronger than Thursday’s, when she said Dagher had a lot of answers to give. Opposition leader Ericka Alneus wants him called before an extraordinary city council meeting, though she does not question his place as chief.

Other cases in the update

  • Four officers, Montréal-Nord: racist misconduct alleged
  • Downtown officer: allegedly urinated on homeless people
  • Downtown officer: allegedly mocked suspects in photos

Dagher is also to update the public on other cases involving officers.
