Makivik's projects include a new seniors' residence, transitional housing and student housing. Seniors at the Tusaajiapik residence in Kuujjuaq were moved south in April over safety problems, including the lack of a sprinkler system.
First estimate for the new residence
40 $ million
A first estimate puts the new seniors' residence at $40 million, and its plans are not final. Transitional housing will also be built in Montreal for the city's Inuit.
"I hope this is only the beginning [...] because we are still far behind the South when it comes to community facilities," said Makivik president Pita Aatami.
