Alberta separatist leader Jeff Rath loses his United Conservative Party membership

Premier Danielle Smith said the party's executive director revoked Jeffrey Rath's membership over code of conduct issues. She told reporters in Calgary on Friday that she supports the decision.

Three-quarters of Alberta voters chose in last week's referendum to stay in Canada rather than hold a second referendum on leaving. Smith says anyone in the party who still wants separation needs to find a new political home.

Rath called the move another "questionable political choice" by the premier. He has called for Smith's resignation and wants a vote on her leadership at the party's upcoming general meeting.
