Border crossings adjust hours as provinces split on the time change
Ontario moved parts of its northwest to year-round daylight time to match Manitoba, which acted without consulting its neighbours. Otherwise the area would have been alone in its own time zone this winter.
Ports of entry across the country
26 crossings
From Nov 1, the Canada Border Services Agency will change its opening hours in British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba to match US crossings, which still turn their clocks back.
Quebec's auto insurer found crashes involving an injured pedestrian rose 98 per cent on average between 5 and 8 p.m. in the 30 days after the fall time change, from 2020 to 2024.
The US House passed a bill in July to make daylight time permanent, but Senate support is uncertain and 19 states wait for a federal law. Quebec's new government, meanwhile, will table its own bill to end the time change.
