Food Banks of Saskatchewan loses its charitable status

The Canada Revenue Agency revoked the organization's registration on Sep 12 for failing to file its annual return, the agency said.

Executive director Michael Kincade says the organization's accounting firm never submitted the completed return. He says the firm has accepted responsibility and will cover any penalties.

The organization supports 36 member food banks, which keep their own charitable status and are not affected.

Without its status, the organization can no longer issue donation receipts or accept gifts from registered charities. It has applied to regain it, with no timeline, as the busiest time of year for food banks begins.
