The federal budget is to be tabled on Nov 5. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne says it will "outline the next steps in our plan to build a stronger, more resilient and more affordable Canada."

Budget Office deficit forecast

$63.3 billion, 2026-27

The Parliamentary Budget Office expects a $63.3-billion deficit in 2026-27, down from $71.8 billion in its June outlook, and a peak of $70.2 billion the next year. It also expects the deficit-to-GDP ratio to rise in 2027-28 and 2029-30, missing the government's fiscal anchor.

And us?

Poilievre says suspending the GST on fuel and scrapping the fuel standard tax would save Canadians money, from groceries to Christmas toys. He says everything is more expensive since Carney took office.
