Carney says he had a “good conversation” with Trump on trade
Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a social media post on Sunday that he spoke with US President Donald Trump, a call his office says took place on Saturday. It came days before Tuesday's US midterm elections.
What Carney says a deal would do
- Create jobs for workers
- Boost affordability for families
- Respect languages, culture, sovereignty
Carney says a deal would create jobs, boost affordability for families and fully respect Canada's languages, culture and sovereignty.
Background
Talks collapsed in August, when Carney said the US pushed for language limiting Canada's ability to strike deals with other countries, weakening French-language requirements and hurting the auto industry. Trump then put 50 per cent tariffs on an array of Canadian goods.
