United States
On Feb 1, 2027, the US Department of Transportation will treat 10 kinds of disruption, including unscheduled maintenance, severe weather and cyberattacks, as outside an airline's control. Airlines may then owe passengers fewer hotel or meal vouchers.
And us?
Experts differ on how far it reaches. One says Canadian rules still cover flights to, from or within Canada, while another says the change applies to anyone flying to, from or within the US.
What's next
The passenger group FlyersRights is suing the US government over the rule, which was first due to take effect on Oct 19.
