Quebec's PQ government dismantles the Cybersecurity and Digital ministry

Treasury Board president Alain Therrien's office confirmed that all of the ministry's public servants now come under him. The department had 2,038 employees in 2024-25.

What we know

  • Staff now answer to the Treasury Board president
  • The change needs new legislation

Not yet

  • Whether the National Assembly will approve it
  • Who will be chief information officer

The minority government acknowledges the new structure needs a bill, which has not yet been tabled. The move came before the National Assembly had approved it.

Former minister Gilles Bélanger calls it a step backward driven by accounting, and fears it will slow the safe use of AI in public services.
