Much of the evidence is messages she sent her mother from Syria, an estimated 10,000 texts and audio files. The RCMP took a year to translate them from Urdu.

Translations disputed
The Crown's case appears to hinge largely on her own messages, while the defence is challenging the accuracy of the RCMP's translations.
Canada brought Amjad back from a Syrian detention camp in 2023 with her two children. She was released on bail and ordered to stay under house arrest at her parents' home.
