Several First Nations have asked the Federal Court to quash Ottawa's Oct 1 decision to name the pipeline a project of national interest. They say Ottawa did not consult them properly, and that the route crosses salmon and fishing waters.

110+ communities consulted
The nations say consultation was rushed and too thin, while Ottawa says it consulted more than 110 Indigenous communities along the potential route.
What's next
The Federal Court has not ruled. The pipeline would carry about one million barrels of oil a day from Alberta to the B.C. coast, at an estimated $35.2 billion to $42.7 billion.
