Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin will attend the first week of the UN talks in Turkey, while Carney skips the leaders' summit. She will co-convene a Global Methane Pledge ministerial meeting with the European Union.
Rollbacks under Carney
- Consumer carbon price eliminated
- Electric vehicle sales mandate repealed
- Oil and gas emissions cap cancelled
- Methane rules in Alberta delayed
The Carney government has scrapped the consumer carbon price, the electric vehicle sales mandate and the oil and gas emissions cap, and delayed methane rules in Alberta.
What we know
- Work on the coal export ban stopped in Nov 2024
- Ottawa formalized the end in Aug 2025
Not yet
- Whether partners were told it ended or paused
Canada's environment commissioner found Ottawa dropped work on its pledge to ban thermal coal exports in November 2024. Officials say the work is only paused.
Carney said in June that emissions will be higher in the next few years than the previous government's plan projected, but that plan was not sustainable.
