Campobello Island residents are caught in the Canada-U.S. trade war

About 900 people live on the New Brunswick island, whose only bridge leads to Lubec, Maine. With no gas station and few grocery options, residents cross the border for basic needs.

Residents paid a 25 per cent tariff on U.S. goods until Ottawa granted the island an exemption. Last month, U.S. border officials turned back a truckload of supplies, and a Campobello brewery has shut down because of the tariffs.

Decisions that are made in capitals far away have an impact immediately on Campobello.
