Hydro-Québec projects an electricity deficit as early as 2029

Energy needs by 2041 (TWh)

60 TWh added 180 TWh today

Its 2027–2041 supply plan sees energy needs rising by 60 TWh to 240 TWh in 2041. Peak demand is expected to grow by 12,000 MW to 52,000 MW.

To fill the gap, the utility may import power from neighbouring provinces or the United States. It plans $200 billion in projects by 2035, including the Churchill Falls framework agreement and new wind and solar farms.

Higher rates

Hydro-Québec does not plan to lead on nuclear power. It also wants to raise rates for large users, including data centres.
