Quebec City tramway builder rejects a Conservative MNA's cost claim

Per kilometre, according to Patrick Paquet

400 $ million

Patrick Paquet, the new Conservative Party of Quebec MNA for Vanier-Les Rivières, said on Wednesday the $7.6-billion cost came from $400 million per kilometre multiplied by the line's 19 km. He also said secret sources told him the cost of the tramway's tunnel has soared.

“This claim is completely unfounded. CDPQ Infra set the cost of the tramway as part of its mandate, based on a detailed assessment of the project.”

CDPQ Infra, the project's prime contractor, says the bids received last spring fit the budget and the two consortiums chosen are working within it. The $7.6 billion covers the tramway, the preparatory work and the work done by partners such as the City of Quebec.

Quebec City Mayor Bruno Marchand asked on Thursday what proof Paquet had, and said he would not spend his time answering claims someone invented.
