Unifor holds strike votes on Saturday and Sunday for more than 9,000 Stellantis workers in Canada, with results expected early next week. Their contract expired on Sep 20.

A strike authorization gives the bargaining committee the authority to call a strike if necessary, it does not automatically mean a strike will take place.

Talks are stuck on job security and the Brampton, Ontario, assembly plant, idle since 2023. Stellantis wants to sell it to defence contractor Roshel, which says its plans there would involve more than 2,000 jobs.

Unifor president Lana Payne has asked Industry Minister Mélanie Joly to block the sale. More than 2,000 workers were laid off when the Brampton plant stopped in 2023.
