Montreal police suspend two officers over misconduct allegations
Neighbourhood station 21
Downtown Montreal
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the suspension of two officers from neighbourhood station 21 downtown, and its professional standards division is investigating.
According to reports, one officer allegedly urinated on a homeless person while on duty, and the other allegedly posed for photos mocking a suspect during an arrest. Police gave no details, citing privacy law and the investigation.
The allegations concerning officers at station 21 are very serious and offend the dignity to which everyone is entitled.
— Soraya Martinez Ferrada, mayor of Montreal
Background
The suspensions come months after police dismantled a 16-member patrol unit at the Montréal-Nord station over separate allegations of racism and misconduct. Crown prosecutors are reviewing the evidence against four officers suspended there.
