The party won no seats in the Oct 5 election despite 13.35 per cent of the vote, and is again simply the Coalition avenir Québec. Élections Québec authorized the change on Thursday.

Background

In July, the party had renamed itself Équipe Christine Fréchette - Coalition avenir Québec. Fréchette announced her resignation as leader the day after the election, after just under six months in the job.

CAQ executive committee

The party's executive committee meets Saturday to choose an interim leader, and former Chapleau MNA Mathieu Lévesque is seen as the favourite.

The interim leader will organize a leadership race, which must move fast because the new Parti Québécois government of Paul St-Pierre Plamondon is a minority. Ian Lafrenière and Simon Jolin-Barrette say they are considering a run.
