Ottawa puts $100 million into Nova Scotia offshore wind
Federal funding for Wind West
100 $ million
Ottawa is putting $100 million into Wind West, a project that could become Canada's first offshore wind farm.
Where the $100 million goes
- $5 million: wind and ocean-measuring buoys
- $3 million: transmission and cable-route studies
- The rest: seabed drilling over the next year
Most of the money goes to seabed surveys, so bidders know what building will cost. Calls for bids are expected in early 2027.
“
We aren't just protecting our own grid. We are powering Canada.
— Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston
And us?
Quebec has already shown interest in buying power from Wind West, and transmission lines to Quebec and Ontario are still being studied.
