Manitoba declares its measles outbreak over after almost 20 months

The outbreak officially ended on Friday, after weeks without a lab-confirmed case. The last confirmed case was reported in August, the provincial government said.

Manitoba recorded 1,038 cases since the outbreak was announced in February 2025: 931 lab-confirmed and 107 probable.

Measles-related hospitalizations

52 patients

There were 52 measles-related hospitalizations, six of them in intensive care, and no deaths. Half of the patients in hospital were younger than 10, and most had not received the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine.

What to do

Early vaccination for babies as young as six months in affected areas has ended, and parents are pointed back to the routine schedule. The province urges residents to be fully vaccinated, as outbreaks continue in the United States.
