Nearly half of Canadians back federal funding for IVF, a survey finds

Support for federal IVF funding

46 %

A survey by Ipsos for Fertility Matters Canada found that 46 per cent of Canadians with an opinion support a federal in vitro fertilization program.

During the 2025 campaign, Prime Minister Mark Carney promised up to $20,000 for a single round of IVF. The promise has yet to materialize.

Ontario patients, 2025

5,466

Quebec patients, 2025

3,606

Nine of the 10 provinces offer some IVF programs, grants or tax credits, a patchwork that experts say federal funding would harmonize. In 2025, 5,466 patients in Ontario and 3,606 in Quebec received provincial funding.

And us?

One round costs around $20,000, and the average heterosexual couple needs three rounds, according to the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society.
