Quebec's new PQ government names defeated MNA Pascal Paradis chief negotiator

Paradis will lead talks with Indigenous nations on energy, treaties and any other matter that needs dialogue with them, and keep close ties with their representatives.

His files

  • Talks with Indigenous nations
  • Energy and treaties
  • Trade with the United States
  • Quebec's international relations

He is also the government's chief negotiator on trade with the United States, including talks on renewing the free-trade agreement.

The government says it does not plan to negotiate directly with the Americans, but wants Quebec “to be at the table.” He reports directly to Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

Background

Paradis, a co-founder of Lawyers Without Borders Canada, won Jean-Talon in a 2023 byelection. He lost the seat on Oct 5 to Liberal Julie White.

No PQ candidate won a seat in the Quebec City region, which leaves it with no member in the governing caucus. The PQ cabinet is due to be named Oct 21.
