French is not a guaranteed language for voters in British Columbia's election
Languages of the voter guide
16 languages
Elections BC translates its voter guide into 16 languages, French among them, but its call centre offers no service in any language other than English.
“It is deep annoyance and indignation to see that still, in 2026, French is not the first language translated, especially for official documents this important.”
— Emmanuelle Corne Bertrand, B.C. francophone federation
Background
The province has no law on French-language services, and its 2024 policy covers ministries; Elections BC is an independent office of the legislature, not a ministry.
At a polling station, a voter who does not speak English may bring a translator, or a staff member may help if able.
