Quebec's strategic maple syrup reserve is nearly empty
“Our strategic reserve has been reduced to zero,” said Luc Goulet, president of Québec Maple Syrup Producers. The federation says the last syrup under contract will be gone by the end of February.

Growth in maple syrup exports in 2025
15.8 %
Exports rose 15.8 per cent in 2025 as buyers in the United States and processors stocked up, fearing tariffs.
Why it matters
When stocks ran out in 2007 and 2008, Quebec lost markets as buyers turned to other sweeteners, and producers fear a weak harvest could do it again.
Producers are asking the province for more support. The new Parti Québécois government has proposed opening 50,000 hectares of public forest to maple production.
