Quebec Superior Court rejects Amazon's challenge over its Laval union
A union affiliated with the CSN was certified at Amazon's Laval warehouse in May 2024; Amazon has since closed all seven of its warehouses in Quebec.
The process Amazon challenged
card-check certification
Amazon argued that certifying a union through signed membership cards, rather than a secret-ballot vote, violated workers' freedom of association.
Quebec's administrative labour tribunal ruled in October 2024 that Amazon had no standing to invoke that freedom on workers' behalf, and the Superior Court has now dismissed Amazon's challenge to that ruling.
Background
In Quebec and British Columbia, workers can be certified without a vote when enough of them sign union cards.
