EverWind plans $10 billion in private investment for a data centre campus at its Point Tupper site near Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI, has signed a long-term lease to use it.

Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender and Liberal MLA Becky Druhan want the legislature recalled, saying the project lacks consultation and safeguards. “Non-binding guidelines are not laws,” Chender wrote to Premier Tim Houston.

A process is in place

Premier Tim Houston says the project goes through a stringent approval process, and that protecting ratepayers is a condition of the province's support. He called claims that household power rates will rise false.

What's next

The campus would start with 95 megawatts in late 2027 and reach 420 megawatts, which experts say would make it Nova Scotia Power's largest industrial customer. Richmond County is organizing town halls, and no building permit has been filed yet.
