Air Canada now charges $30 to book a flight by phone

Fee per passenger, by phone

30 $

Since Oct 15, every new booking made through the airline's call centre carries a $30 non-refundable fee per passenger. A family of four booking by phone pays $120.

The airline says its website and app make booking easy, and the fee lets agents focus on cases that need personal help. Aeroplan reward bookings by phone already carried the fee.

No fee for

  • Rebooking after a delay or cancellation
  • Help with an existing reservation
  • Customers with accessibility needs

The fee does not apply to calls about a delayed or cancelled flight, nor to customers who need specialized care, including those with accessibility needs.

What travellers can do

To avoid the fee, book on the airline's website or app, where a new flight, a change or a refund after a disruption can also be handled without calling.
