Montreal-area sales fell 11.6 per cent to 3,082, yet sellers "remain in a strong negotiating position" across Quebec, the provincial brokers' association said. The median single-family price rose 0.5 per cent to $635,000.

"This was hardly surprising given the latest jump in fixed mortgage rates, and with the Bank of Canada now widely expected to follow with a rate hike before the end of the year."
