Bid $80,000 higher
The Canada Revenue Agency awarded a $12-million security contract for its buildings to Allied Universal, a US company. Its bid was $80,000 lower than that of the Commissionnaires, which had held the contract since 2012.

3,500 veterans
The Commissionnaires, a non-profit founded in 1925, is Canada's largest employer of veterans, with 3,500 military and RCMP veterans among its 22,000 employees. The agency adopted a Buy Canadian policy in December 2025.
The office of the secretary of state responsible for the CRA says the contract went to a qualified Canadian subsidiary, headquartered in Mississauga, after a competitive process. It says criteria go beyond cost.
Conservative MP Michael Barrett and NDP MP Gord Johns criticized the decision. Johns said a Canadian institution that supports veterans lost the contract over a price difference of less than one per cent.
