Alberta referendum count: three constitutional questions flip to no

Where no now leads

  • Provinces choose judges: 50.4% no
  • Opt out of federal programs: 51.6% no
  • Protect provincial jurisdiction: 50.1% no

As counting went on, the no side took the lead on provinces choosing judges, opting out of federal programs with their funding, and protecting provincial jurisdiction. Abolishing the Senate still led, with 52.5 per cent yes.

Yes to proof of citizenship to vote

60.1 %

The yes side still leads on all five immigration questions, but narrowly, from 52.1 per cent on access to provincial programs to 60.1 per cent on proof of citizenship to vote.

Albertans would just rather that we spend our time focusing on things where we can make some meaningful change.

— Danielle Smith, Alberta premier

And us?

Smith said Prime Minister Mark Carney accepted that Albertans want more collaboration on immigration, and that she is preparing a proposal to submit to Ottawa.
