Carney recruits former CAQ member Chantal Soucy for a Quebec by-election
Chantal Soucy, who represented Saint-Hyacinthe for 12 years for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), will run for the Liberals in the federal riding of Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot—Acton, in a by-election to be called soon.

55 %
First elected in 2014, she won her next two races easily; in 2022 she took nearly 55 per cent of the vote, about 15,600 votes ahead of her nearest rival.
In the current economic context, I don't just want our region to be heard in Ottawa. I want it to have influence where decisions are made.
— Chantal Soucy, Liberal candidate

The seat opened when MP Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay left Ottawa and won Saint-Hyacinthe for the Parti Québécois; he was named Quebec's minister of relations with First Nations and Inuit on Wednesday.
