Winnipeg police headquarters inquiry finds a "total catastrophe", Manitoba premier says
Overpaid by the city, according to the premier
43.3 million $
Premier Wab Kinew says the inquiry found the city overpaid by about $43.3 million for the headquarters. Without that overpayment, he said, the project would have been on budget.
First estimate
$135 million
Final cost
$214 million
The city had estimated the purchase and conversion of the former Canada Post building at $135 million, and the cost grew to $214 million.
Kinew says the report finds misconduct by people involved at the time, with fabricated invoices and misappropriated funds. The province will accept all its recommendations, which he did not detail.
