Gold heist trial hears a key camera at Pearson was not working

A Peel Regional Police detective testified that cameras near the Air Canada printer that produced the waybill were not working on the day of the 2023 theft. The waybill released a crate of gold and cash worth more than $22.5 million to the gang.

“Whoever picked it up from the printer was not captured on video.”

— Det. Sarah Angevine, Peel Regional Police

What we know

  • Sidhu's employee ID was used to print the waybill
  • Cargo staff routinely shared login credentials

Not yet

  • Who took the waybill off the printer
  • How long the camera had been down

The court has heard that accused former employee Parmpal Sidhu's ID was used to print the waybill, but also that cargo staff routinely shared login credentials.

The detective said phones registered to Sidhu and his manager at the time, Simran Preet Panesar, also accused, were in contact from 5:35 a.m. to 9:44 p.m. on the day of the heist. Sidhu has pleaded not guilty to theft and conspiracy.
