Canadians are split on how Ottawa should end strikes, a poll finds
How Ottawa should end a strike
- Pass back-to-work legislation: 36%
- Let the labour minister do it: 32%
- Not at all: 25%
In a Nanos Research poll, 36 per cent said Ottawa should have to pass back-to-work legislation to end a strike, 32 per cent backed letting the labour minister do it, and 25 per cent said strikes should not be ended at all.
The power at stake
Section 107
Labour ministers have used Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to send disputes involving flight attendants, postal workers, and rail and port employees to a quasi-judicial body, without passing a law.

Entrenches the power
The Carney government says its bill raises the bar for using Section 107, while several unions say it entrenches a power Ottawa should not have.
Canadians aged 18 to 24 were the least likely to back the minister's power and the most likely to say Ottawa should stay out. The poll of 1,057 people ran Sep 27 to 29.
