Montreal brings back road salt and buys new snow equipment for winter
Montreal's new winter strategy

Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada announced a $15.8 million winter strategy, and the city says 85 per cent of its equipment is ready to deploy.

- 13 snowblower heads
- 11 spreader trucks
Most of the money, $13.3 million, buys 43 pieces of snow equipment, while $2.5 million goes to the boroughs that share street maintenance with the city.
What changes on sidewalks
The city moves away from using gravel alone and brings back salt, with a starfish-based additive that reduces salt's harmful effects, to be tested this winter.
