Quebec government weighs a second voice for the Quebec City region

Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon named Nicolas Girard minister responsible for the region. Hours later he said the Parti Québécois, which won no seat in the area, is studying how to give it a second voice.

Option 1

Opposition MNAs speak for it

Option 2

Staff in premier's office

The two options: let Conservative or Québec solidaire members represent the region's interests inside government, or name people in the premier's office to do it.

"The PQ seems very confused," said Liberal MNA Julie White, whose party holds one Quebec City seat and says it was not consulted.

Conservative Maïté Blanchette Vézina called it a disavowal of the new minister. Girard said only that the government is looking at the best way to represent the region's citizens.
