Duhaime's Conservatives take their seats in the National Assembly

Votes won

885,000 votes, 20.7 per cent

The party won more than 885,000 votes, 20.7 per cent, in the Oct 5 election, enough for 19 seats.

It is the first time since 1935 that a Conservative caucus has sat in the National Assembly. Eighteen confirmed members were sworn in Thursday, while Champlain's Adriana Szalontai missed the ceremony because of a judicial recount.

“Quebecers are not asking us to be perfect.” Duhaime told the new caucus its members will make mistakes.

Why it matters

Most of the caucus are newcomers, and only two have parliamentary experience. The Conservatives hold part of the balance of power in a legislature where the PQ government is a minority with 60 of 127 seats.
