B.C.'s incoming premier does not back Poilievre's push to lift the tanker ban

On Tuesday, Pierre Poilievre urged the Liberal government to reverse the moratorium on tankers off B.C.'s north coast so a Calgary-based company could ship crude to Asia from Prince Rupert.

Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson said the debate belongs in Ottawa: "Our government's focus is on the project in front of us." He pointed to the Pacific Link pipeline, which takes a southern route.

The ban dates from 2019, and Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed it in July. A Conservative private member's bill to revoke it was due for a vote Wednesday and was expected to fail.
