The US embassy in Ottawa released a fact sheet on Wednesday saying Canadian ministers and premiers openly describe plans to influence American politics. It quotes Industry Minister Mélanie Joly five times.

What the embassy cites

  • Counter-tariffs aimed at Republican states
  • Joly's meetings with governors and candidates
  • Ontario's anti-tariff ad quoting Ronald Reagan
  • Ford urging tariffs on key US states

The examples include Joly's comments on aiming counter-tariffs at Republican states and Ontario's anti-tariff ad that used clips of former US president Ronald Reagan.

"All of our actions are in the interests of Canadian workers, Canadian families and the future of this economy," Prime Minister Mark Carney said, noting the US started the trade actions.
