Carney rejects US meddling claims as diplomats are told to keep their distance
There is “no merit” to the US claims of interference in its midterms, Carney said Friday in Istanbul, calling them unsubstantiated. He said he is disappointed the US ambassador sees it as his role to make such suggestions.
Diplomats
Carney said Global Affairs Canada reminded diplomats to be careful whom they are seen with, before the US fact sheet appeared. According to reports, an internal memo bars them from meeting midterm candidates without special permission.
“That is diplomacy. That's what we do.”
— Mélanie Joly, Industry Minister
