  • 14,973 names were in the data
  • 12,392 tips may hold personal details

Not yet

  • Whose names they are
  • What the stolen tips say

The software's owner, Navigate360, sent a list of 14,973 names found in the breach, but has not said whose they are, nor shared the text of the stolen tips.

“Until we have a safer way to protect you, please do not send us tips by phone, online or through the app.”

— Sean Sportun, chair, Toronto Crime Stoppers

What to do now

Toronto police have also suspended their use of Crime Stoppers. Information can still go through police channels, which are not anonymous, and anyone in an emergency should call 911.
